PASS network for life
Who are we and what do we do?
HISTORY OF PASS
Pregnancy Aid South Suburbs (PASS) was founded in 1983, as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, in response to the abortion dilemma in the South Suburbs. PASS opened its first center July, 1984 in Midlothian, IL with the mission to remove or reduce the desire for abortion.
The Story of Pregnancy Aid South Suburbs
30 years ago, God planted a seed in the heart of a woman named Teri-Lei to open a crisis pregnancy center. She felt compelled to do her part to save the lives of innocent, unborn children from abortion, and also to spare women from the emotional, physical and psychological consequences that abortion caused. Teri’s promptings to begin a crisis pregnancy center were confirmed one Sunday as she knelt at the altar of her church to pray with a young woman who had had an abortion. Teri’s friend was seeking forgiveness from God for her abortion, which she had done before coming to know the Savior. Teri and her friend cried and prayed together at the altar that day, and then put their prayer into action. It shouldn’t surprise us that the PASS ministry was birthed at an altar of prayer where two young women prayed together for forgiveness and healing from the Creator of Life. A steering committee to start a local crisis pregnancy center was formed at Stone Church in Palos Heights. PASS rose to the battle in 1983 with God’s simple plan, which became our Mission Statement: To remove or reduce the DESIRE for abortion throughout our defined mission field, Chicago’s Southland. We first ministered in a center in Oak Forest, which moved to Tinley Park. Soon word began to spread, and women traveled from the direction of South Holland, so we opened a center there. The Lord blessed us, and expanded our territory to Crete, Merrillville, Shepherd’s House (a maternity home) and Lansing. …Shortly after I came on staff, it became apparent that accomplishing our mission was becoming more and more complex, but at the same time our foundations remained remarkably simple. All of our efforts to remove or reduce the desire for abortion were built on the foundation of the Gospel of Peace, which is presented to every client who will open their ears to hear it. In 2005 we added a medical aspect with the addition of Limited OB Ultrasound to our new Tinley Park location. From there, four pillars of our ministry were defined: prevention, crisis intervention, education and restoration.
In 1988, PASS made the intentional decision to stand for the abstinence until marriage lifestyle. IMPACT abstinence education, developed age-appropriate, interactive and culturally relevant presentations for middle school, high school and college students to combat the “safer sex” message predominant in culture. Students are empowered to make the healthiest decisions regarding love, sex and relationships. Discussion based presentations are also available for parents. Students who have committed or recommitted to abstinence are encouraged to join the LIVE with INTENTION Student Leadership Program, which helps build character qualities and leadership skills.
The most recognizable arm of PASS is the INTERVENTION pillar. Through Intervention, clients are given information one-on- one, necessary to make informed decisions about their pregnancy. We offer free limited ultrasounds at our Tinley Park location. In addition to pregnancy tests, clients receive options guidance in the areas of adoption, abortion, parenting, relationships and the gospel. Our crisis pregnancy clients are abortion vulnerable and can be abortion minded. Up to 94% of those who come to PASS and are abortion minded will choose life. We operate three pregnancy care centers which are located in Lansing, South Holland Tinley Park.
“Abundant Life” Living Well Program offers classes on topics including early pregnancy, childbirth, parenting, relationships, finance, women’s issues, men’s issues and family life. This program is an earn-while- you-learn program where the client earns points by attending and participating in class. PASS continues to encourage, inspire, equip and empower individuals with a foundation that will help them for the rest of their lives.
In 1991, the “Hope & Healing” program which offers RESTORATION to those suffering from grief, loss, a painful past or a past abortion decision was started. Individuals are given the opportunity to heal and break free from guilt or burdens they have experienced throughout life. “Hope & Healing” is a curriculum based program effective in emotional, social and relational healing, restoring individuals, families and communities. Whether teaching sexual integrity, saving lives of unborn children, teaching life skills, or offering hope and healing, PASS seeks to ensure the stability of family. PASS is not only about saving lives, it is also about preserving the life of the family as part of God’s plan for future generations.

Because we are a 501(c)3 organization and accept no federal funding, we rely on businesses, churches and individuals to support our ministry work with financial giving.* Baby supplies are needed such as diapers, wipes, bottles, pacifiers, baby clothes, blankets, bathing supplies and MUCH MORE. Consider hosting a “Baby Shower” where items are brought to the shower to benefit the baby. We offer our Baby Bottle Boomerang program which encourages giving by filling a PASS-provided baby bottle with spare change. These two avenues together, benefit both PASS and its clients. Attend one of our fundraisers such as “Hike for Life” or our “Fundraising Banquet”. Businesses, churches and individuals are encouraged to assist us in not only attending these events, but also by underwriting donations for the various expenses that are incurred. PASS believes God calls each of us to serve and use the gifts, talents and abilities He has given each of us. We welcome High School community service minded teens, college students seeking internships and all ages of men and women, to be a part of God’s Volunteer Support Team at PASS. Individuals are invited to attend our Volunteer Tour and Orientation held every second Monday of each month at our Tinley Park location from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. ”For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13 (NIV)
